We finally had another visit from Tiffany and Melissa yesterday. They came at the same time, and I think that threw Lyric off a little bit because the report sheet said she was a little shy, and hid her face. You never know which Lyric is going to show up to these things.
There was a lot of information poured
onto Travis at one time, and the sheet was FULL of observations and
recommendations. They brought a sensory
bin full of rice for her to play with, which she apparently seemed to enjoy –
but trusting her with small objects like rice is pretty brave, considering how
often she suddenly decides that things are confetti.
At any rate, we got a few more recommendations after Travis
went over what works and isn’t really working.
We have target words for when she plays with her sensory bin, and there
will be target words from when she uses her fancy new toy…. We have an iPad she
uses now. Does that make us one of
*those* families? Her Nana very
graciously loaned one to us, and let me tell you the kid is an addicted pro
already. We only bring it out after I am
home from work, and she gets it up until bedtime. She’s amazing at the memory games, she rocks
Endless Alphabet (which is pictured above), and she really likes to make Pocoyo dance. We’re supposed to get an email with apps that
are good for speech delay and things like that at some point, so hopefully it
will become a really great tool for her to learn with, as well as have fun
with.
She’s taken to drawing on the walls lately, which is a huge
pain in the ass when you rent.
Thankfully it’s just with crayon or chalk, and Mr. Clean Magic Erasers
take care of it pretty well. They
recommended getting her an easel because they think maybe she prefers the
upright orientation for drawing, and that’s why she is doing it. It makes sense, because on the iPad if we
open up something for her to “paint” with, she holds it upright as well. Just makes her feel better about drawing, I
guess. We will have to keep a lookout
for a cheap easel.
In other news, my mom and I took Lyric to Ikea this past
weekend. It wasn’t a total disaster, but
it was definitely not much of a picnic either.
By the end of it, she was in full on nuclear meltdown mode. We’re going to have to go back at some point
without her to really get done what we want to do there. She napped then entire way there in the car,
and I figured she would do poorly in the child care area, which was probably a
silly thought on my part. I guess you
live and learn, right?
With her third birthday coming up pretty quickly, we’ve been
addressing the fact that she will be transitioning out of home visits quite
soon. We are looking in to enrolling her
in the Early Childhood classroom at a local elementary school. It’s a half day program, and I’m pretty sure
it’s 4 days a week. She would be able to
hang out with kids her age, and receive speech and sensory therapies in a
formal classroom setting. Definitely
looking forward to getting more information on that, and to getting her
started. I really think interaction with
kids her age will do her a lot of good.
Things are there usual boring around here other than
that. I’m trying to get pictures of the
little activities we’ve done together for posting, but with all the “traveling”
she’s been doing lately, it’s easier said than done!
